Proof of Principle Gen001
Proof of Principle GEN001 complete
The first generation test configuration (GEN001) was installed on a motoring dynamometer to evaluate the compression characteristics of the engine and investigate sealing of the working volume. The testing was performed at speeds lower than typical cranking speeds to avoid damage to the single evaluation article. The data shows tip seals functional across pressure boundary dividing combustion chamber. During the dynamometer testing, excessive lubrication oil was added to the engine to investigate seal leakage. As the engine was motored, the excess oil began to ignite as evidenced by the pressure peaks after top dead center as shown. This unexpected result confirms the functionality of the seals across the pressure boundary dividing the combustion chamber.
